Our history

A part of a proud Swedish engineering tradition

Air Target Sweden has a history that dates back to the 1930s and we are a part of the proud Swedish engineering tradition that transformed our country to a world leader in innovation. Our company originated as a part of the Swedish military but is now a privately held with a complete range of scoring products including MDI’s, scoring stations, test equipment, sleeve targets and inboard target towing winches.

Our history in brief

1935
One branch of the company (Svensk Flygtjänst AB) was founded in 1935 by the fighter pilot Tor Eliasson. It was originally a military and civilian flying school service but shifted focus to target manufacturing and target towing operations at the beginning of World War II.

1958
The other branch of our organization was founded by Ulf Sellman and partners in 1958, at the Vidsel Test Range, and this is where our acoustic scoring technology was born.

1977
In 1977 the two branches merged within the defense-controlled company Swedair and in 1978 they delivered equipment to 15 countries.

1989
In the late 1980s Swedair was privatized. The target towing operation company became a part of what today is SAAB Support and Services, and the remainder of the operation became Air Target Sweden AB.

Today
Today we are proud of being a trusted supplier of acoustic scoring systems to more than 30 countries across the globe.

"Throughout our journey, we have continually honed our solutions to meet the evolving needs of our customers. As we gaze into the future, we are enthusiastic about leveraging emerging technologies to further refine our offerings and elevate the value we provide to our customers." Says Helena Carell, CEO Air Target Sweden.
